American embraces GK

June 30, 2008

By Patricia Esteves — The Philippine Star

In a room full of Filipino-Americans during an assembly in San Jose, California, a tall, white American woman talks fervently about Gawad Kalinga, her voice cracking with emotion as she recounts how GK changed her life when she first heard about it in 2005.

Soon, grown men in the crowd start crying, touched by her testimony and amazed at how a blonde, blue-eyed American can love poor Filipinos and the Philippines much more than they do.

Meet Nancy Nuqui, a native of Pennsylvania and married to Filipino pilot Gene Nuqui from Masantol, Pampanga for 15 years now.

Ever since she embraced GK three years ago, Nancy has taken on the role of spokesperson of the foundation.

Nancy shared that GK is a way of loving and honoring the Philippines, the country of her husband, which she has come to love as well.

As a spokesperson for GK, Nancy would travel to different cities in the US and attend GK and Couples for Christ (CFC) assemblies and share her testimony about how GK touched her life.

Raising awareness about GK in different cities in America or in the Philippines has become her life and she does it full-time.
