"Oops… we did it again" - A write-up from motorcycle group Ride for a Cause (RfaC)

Ride For a Cause Part 2 has just been concluded and all were in high spirits. In the forums, a suggestion was raised about having a tshirt printed for the participants of RfaC, so that the riders can identify each other by having the rider’s handle name printed on the shirt.

A rider (ehem!) came up with a tshirt design concept, and using a very rough design, presented it to the rider’s on the forums. Another rider then put the concept to a working design, most of the riders agreed to the concept and design and commissioned another former to start printing the tshirts. A list was populated to reflect the rider’s tshirt orders and sizes. Our RfaC organizer’s (do we need to name name’s? :D ) had stepped up for the collection for the cost of the shirt and even volunteered their personal bank accounts as a means of collecting the payments. As the tshirt project was underway, RfaC organizers also started to collect funds and donations. Organizers had identified the next RfaC recepient as the Rehoboth Children’s Home in Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal. In coordination with Ms. Fe Canlas, Resident Administrator of Rehoboth, riders started gathering the donations. Meanwhile, the tshirt project was finished and was distributed thru the valiant efforts of one of our RfaC senior organizer.

After the success of Ride For a Cause Part 1 & 2, the riders of MCP did it again. Ride For a Cause Part 3 was a success story in the history books. With funds left over from the previous RFAC and the donations that poured in, participants of the project banded together once again and rode and shared their blessings.

As scheduled, the rider assembled at Shell (Pugon) Marcos highway at around 5 am, July 6, 2008. As the riders with their donations arrive, everybody was busy exchanging Hi’s and Hello’s as the tshirts has given identity to these riders. The donations were collected and placed on the back up cages. As usual, after saying a short prayer for a safe journey, everybody geared up and at 6:30 am, took off for MaRiLaQue. First stop, Nature Lover’s point. Riders enjoyed the beautiful morning ride, the roads leading up Sierra Madre was open, not much traffic so everybody enjoyed riding the twisting and winding road. Upon arrival at Garden Cottages, riders took the opportunity for photographs and a quick chat. As the group had assembled, they then proceeded to Sampaloc, Tanay.

Arriving at the intersection going to Sampaloc and Infanta, with a quick stop, more opportunity for picture taking and “taho break”.

Riders arrived at the Asian Hope Missonary Outreach of the Philippines at around 8am. The Administrator and staff of Rehoboth was overwhelmed with the sheer volume of motorcycles in their driveway. Riders unpack and presented the donations to the Rehoboth administrator.

Ms. Fe Canlas shared information and stories about how they are helping the children admitted to their institution. Riders took pictures, and some had taken the opportunity to roam and tour the grounds. It was a very festive atmosphere, riders also went around and met the some of the kids and listened to their sad stories about how they were abandoned or surrendered to the institution. Mostly were unwanted pregnancies or were totally abandoned by their parents. It was very heart warming to see the children smile as they opened the box of toys and other donations.

Everybody had enjoyed the trip. It was well worth the time and effort from these volunteer riders from MCP. As usual, a lot of digital cameras were clicking and shooting away, the children joined as well as the Rehoboth staff, “Sige Ate, taas pa!” a rider said jokingly, (I wonder why? Hahaha)

The ride was not complete without a hot meal of bulalo at Mang Vic’s, which the rider’s had enjoyed on their way down the mountains of Sierra Madre.

Ride For a Cause 3 another successful project.

Come and join us, “Naka-ride ka na, nakatulong ka pa!”
