Leap of faith for charity

August 15, 2008

62-year old briton Ron Williams plans to jump off a plane to donate to a Philippine-based charity.  Williams hopes to raise £2,000 for Philippines Children’s Fund, which benefits underprivileged youth of Smokey Mountain.

A FORMER member of the News team is hoping to raise money for underprivileged children in the Philippines – by jumping out of a plane on his 62nd birthday!

Ron Williams (pictured), who sold advertising space for the News in the seventies, will be doing a sponsored parachute jump at Dunkeswell airfield on Friday in aid of the Philippines Children’s Fund.

The budding daredevil decided to support the charity after reading an article about children on the infamous ‘Smokey Mountain’ rubbish heap in Manila.

“My wife and I were touched by the plight of the children and the work that the fund is doing out there,” Ron said.

“We want to help them make a real difference to these kids lives.”
