A life in the day…

September 24, 2008

Every day for the next 18 years since March 31, 1979, Jamie Livingston would take a photo of himself or any subject pertinent to the day (if the day was rather on the down low, he would take a photo of the date).

On October 25, 1997, Livingston died at the age of 41 (due apparently to cancer) having captured 6,697 photos with a Polaroid SX-70.  In 2007, his friends set up a physical exhibit of his works at the Bertelsmann Campus Center at Bard College.

Thanks to Chris Higgins of Mental Floss for the research in to Livingston’s life.  Read more of He Took a Polaroid Every Day, Until the Day He Died.

My sister and I had an argument about the lack of novelty in this a-photo-a-day project.  She claimed this has been done by many individuals almost to a plethora in the name of artistic value, which I ceded as true.  But the Mental Floss post, I feel, touches closest to the emotions…which gives it its notable measure.
