One afternoon, British national David Watkinson was astonished to find a group of children going through his trash outside his rented apartment in Las Pinas, southern Metro Manila. David soon found out that the kids were scavenging for scraps to make a living.
Making the job easy for the kids, he started segregating his garbage–separating recyclables from the biodegradable. But it does not end there, today the 30-year old, who grew up in Newcastle, England, opens his home to the children daily for a couple of hours to eat and relax.
David’s generosity has earned the full support of his girlfriend–actress, comedienne and TV host, Ian Victor. Ian, who is equally socially-conscious and civic-oriented, takes time out of her busy schedule to engage in worthwhile causes. And what better way to leverage this effort than to use the Internet.
David and Ian founded Kudos.ph in January 2011 to celebrate all that is good about humanity. On the website, visitors can share stories deserving of applause and give praise to people for their meritorious acts.
In this interview, the couple shares the quirks of their cross-cultural relationship and their intrinsic similarities–a testament to the bridging of cultures in this modern age…or maybe kindred spirits bound to meet by fate. David and Ian also talks about getting out there and taking action for worthwhile causes.
Listen to this Greater Good Philippines two-on-one interview and be inspired as David and Ian narrate how they started Kudos.ph and share the driving force behind their advocacies.
